so i ended up at one of the most expensive gas stations in san diego, not to mention one of the most ghetto. the credit card machine was down at my pump, so i had to go inside and guess how much it would cost to fill up my tank. the middle eastern guy behind the counter asked me a few questions that seemed a bit flirtatiously menacing. before i had realized what i said, i told him that i was 40, married and had two kids. a few more questions through his thick accent lead me to understand that his next question was, "you work out?"

i repeated the question a couple of times back, like, are you seriously asking me this? i felt like the answer was pretty obvious (even though i was wearing a rather oversized dress with pants). i chuckled my yes reply and he tried to clarify by repeating himself. this went back and forth until i took my receipt and finally told the guy 'good luck and have a nice night'. a few steps later it finally dawned on me, he was actually saying "you're welcome".
whoops! i think the word of the day is egocentric.
