christmas market

just got back from a delightful trip to the US, and then made a quick trip to belgium and germany for some christmas markets!  i had never been to a bona fide christmas market in europe before, and let me tell you that they did not disappoint!

i was smitten by this advent calendar house!  each night there was a little ceremony and they would flip the number over to reveal a charming christmas image.

small, skiwampus hansel and gretel house with a witch crawling up the side.  it wasn't creepy, just super cute.  but then again, euro design can hardly do any wrong in my book.

original, public shaming area.

a local eatery that is apparently pretty dog-gone good.

in her beautiful english, this german vendor told me that she lived in florida for several years where she worked at wal-mart, learned english, and met her husband (a fellow co-worker).  they decided that since that's where they met, what better place to marry?!  so they got married at wal-mart.  can you believe that i actually got to meet this woman?!!  i told her that i needed a picture of her, so she invited me into her nice, warm booth.

a festive mannequin to help the restaurant look a little more crowded.

another great eatery purely based on signage. . .
restaurant badftub.  (sorry the picture is so dark, but maybe it's for the best!)

I wonder what they serve at Restaurant Badftub? It makes me think of that No Doubt song where Gwen says "but I still love to wash in your old bathwater" which is pretty gross. Hopefully the food there is ten times better than the signage. Love the pics of your European Christmas!
