life in a box

before we moved to switzerland, b and i lived in a hotel for a couple of months while we waited for our visas--and i actually didn't mind it.  life felt simple and uncluttered.  and as much as i love furniture and clothes, it's just stuff.  you can always replace stuff--except for the pair of missoni shoes that i got a killer deal on.  so i guess a good deal is pretty priceless.  and i can't forget how much i loved having clean sheets and towels everyday.  let's be real, that's what got me through.

because we were at the hotel so long, we set up our computer network and named it "we're not CIA".  we noticed a few days later that we had some jokesters in our midst.

and moshi celebrated her 2nd bday with a doggie cupcake from Sprinkles.  please try not to be distracted by the attractive carpeting so you can focus on her cute little tongue.

it was during those last months that we were hurriedly trying to tie up all of the loose ends in our lives--packing, selling our cars, going to Sprinkles as often as possible, buying lots of last minute items--including 75 lbs of brown sugar that i am praying gets me through the next couple of years since they don't sell it here (i know it's wishful thinking at my consumption rate), selling electronics (ie: the tv that we were still making payments on), saying goodbye to coworkers, friends and family, and one of the biggest loose ends of all was attempting to finish what we started--the house remodeling.  it was chaos.

i'll post more pics of the house eventually, but i'm feeling a little sentimental.
taking up half the street on the big day

and then seeing our lives loaded up and barely filling half of the container, we said goodbye.
