so, you think you are the king or queen of DIYs? i think i'm still feeling spellbound by my euro sightings that when i came across this fab article on apartment therapy, i had to share it.
Michel Guyot wanted to know if he had what it takes to build a castle from scratch. With the help of a few hundred people, Michel started building a castle deep in the forest of Burgundy, France in 1988. The one rule is that they are only able to draw information from documents that existed during the 13th century. http://www.guedelon.fr/
The medieval castle, named Guédelon, follows the construction methods of its pretend start date - 1228. This means that slaked lime and sand are used instead of concrete, sandstone is quarried, a blacksmith forges the nails and rope is made on site.
While the design of the castle went along well enough, they realized that the building "lacked soul". So, the team invented an owner, a middle-feudal lord named Seigneur Guilber, with a point of view that would help guide their decisions.
